Vernon residents packed a meeting Tuesday to discuss bed shortages at their hospital.
Betty Selin - Astral Media Radio (Vernon)
It's a very bad situation! That's what 200 people who turned out for last night's health forum in Vernon heard about the hospital. Doctor Hamish Hwang was surprised by the large crowd. He says Vernon is the only hospital in the region that is over capacity every day and says their main goal is more funding for acute care beds and nurses, adding without it the new facility will be obsolete the day it opens. The Vernon Hospital is again in 'Code Purple', meaning operating over capacity. Dr. Hwang says 10 percent of the patients come from Revelstoke and Salmon Arm, but their funding is allocated to the Kamloops region. Hwang adds Vernon residents need to write their MLA and the Health Minister and demand more funding for acute care beds and nurses.

Vernon Taxpayer's Association to initiate Petition
Following a meeting this evening at the Schubert Centre, called by Drs. Hwang and Cunningham regarding the present crisis at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital, the Vernon and Districts Taxpayers' Association asked to support and initiate a petition to the Provincial Government to redress the present crisis that doctors at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital face.
We have agreed to work on the issue, beginning with a petition, the details of which will be put out in the next 48 hours. Other actions are being considered and in this respect we call on our fellow taxpayers to give us their feedback, suggestions, and ideas to help the situation at the Hospital.

Don Quixote Note: See part of the presentation at link below. Figures and facts speak volumes of underfunding of our Hospital.
