Mayes on Seniors or Baumbrough planting tree at 2 PM ??

VERNON, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - April 21, 2008) - Mr. Jean-Guy Souliere, Chair of the National Seniors Council, and Mr. Colin Mayes, Member of Parliament for Okanagan-Shuswap, will be available to the media after the conclusion of the Vernon National Seniors Council Roundtable. Mr. Mayes will provide details on three new projects that will benefit seniors in the area.

Jean-Guy Soulière BIO

After a successful career with the federal public service, Jean-Guy Soulière joined the Federal Superannuates National Association (FSNA) in 1994 as Executive Director. He holds a degree from the University of Ottawa and is fluently bilingual.With more than 155,000 members and 85 branches, the FSNA represents pensioners and their spouses and survivors, from the Canadian Forces, the Public Service of Canada and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.Mr. Soulière is former Chair and Spokesperson for the Congress of National Seniors' Organizations and a member of the Public Service Pension Advisory Committee.

"These roundtables give the Council a great opportunity to get to know people working on the front lines of seniors' issues," said Mr.
Jean-Guy Souliere, Chair of the National Seniors Council. "Hearing these views will help us to give the government our best advice to
ensure that the evolving needs of Canada's aging population can be met."
The current roundtables follow the Council's cross-Canada meetings on elder abuse held in the fall of 2007. The Report of the National
Seniors Council on Elder Abuse, released in December 2007, can be found at www.seniorscouncil.gc.ca.
In February, roundtables were held in Quebec City, Quebec; St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador; Woodstock, New Brunswick; and Winnipeg,
Manitoba. Between now and April 24, roundtables will be held in MapleRidge and Vernon, British Columbia; and Whitehorse, Yukon.

Councillor Buffy Baumbrough, Chair of the City’s Environmental Advisory Committee, will formally commemorate Earth Day by planting two mature tree in Rotary Park. This event will happen at 2:00 p.m. on Earth Day (April 22nd), and everyone is welcome to attend. Free seedlings will be given to all members of the public in attendance.

Where is Rotary Park? I've lived here for more than 25 years, and this is the first time that I've heard of it.

Vernon Rotary Centennial Park

Vernon Rotary dedicated a new park June 28th, called the Vernon Rotary Centennial Park, in celebration of the Centenary of Rotary.

Mayor Wayne Lippert was there representing the city, and Past Club President Carol Schroeder (who envisioned the concept) cut the ribbon.
It is located in a very high profile location at 43rd Ave and 32nd Street, across from Safeway and Prospera Credit Union.
