Discussions will be held to try and prevent the city of Vernon from pulling out of NORD's fire training facility. After a lengthy discussion, regional district directors on Wednesday decided to receive the city's notice to withdraw from the function by the end of the year, but agreed to schedule talks to address the concerns. The discussions will involve city and NORD reps and fire department administration. The city says it can provide the service on its own, at a lower cost, which will be explored in the discussions. Directors agreed if Vernon pulled out, the costs for all other NORD members would skyrocket, and it could lead to the end of the training facility. The program currently costs a quarter million dollars a year to operate under the regional district.
