Coldstream residents won't have such a large tax hike this year. After a special meeting Monday, council voted in favour of a 6.95 percent increase this year, down from 9.1 percent. It works out to an extra 49 dollars for the average homeowner. Four percent of the hike is for the new Coldstream and Lavington firehalls, while council also approved $100,000 for future road work, and $50,000 to deal with possible changes to Greater Vernon Water due to the city of Vernon's plan to withdrawl in January. Councillors Glen Taylor and Mary Malerby voted against the increase, with Taylor wanting it under six percent.
