Penticton Western May 2
Terasen Gas officials examine the site of a line break in the alley behind a construction site in the 200 block of Main Street early Thursday afternoon. Members of the Penticton Fire Department blocked off a section of the alley and briefly evacuated adjoining businesses while the break was capped.

Don Quixote Note: This may explain some of the uses for the money that all Terasen Gas users pay at 3.09% rate for a franchise fee each month.Last year the city collected $570,000 and this year expects to collect $579,000. The City maintains that this is the cost of road repairs etc caused by Terasen Gas. They admit that they have never done a cost analysis of the actual cost but they have said that the revenue definitely exceeds the costs of repairs.
Each year I have asked the question of whether the City has any liability for such a gas leak as we bought the pipes and underlying infrastructure from B.C. Gas about 5 years ago and we now lease the infrastructure back to them undo a LILO agreement under the Legacy Fund. (To date I have received no answer)
