Vernon fireworks for Canada Day just got a bigger bang.With an explosive $5,000 donation from Wesbild Holdings, the fireworks show at the army camp is now set to blast off July 1. “This major corporate sponsorship from Wesbild ensures enough funds will be in place for a fantastic show,” said Mayor Wayne Lippert in a press release.“And we thank them tremendously for getting involved.”Jennifer Strachan, Wesbild representative, presented the cheque to Lippert at the fire hall recently.Jeff Carlisle, fireworks committee chairman, is impressed with how fast the community was able to raise the funds.“All I have been doing since I got here is accepting cheques,” said Carlisle, who is Vernon’s new fire chief.About $10,000 was required for the fireworks show, and with $5,600 previously raised for the fireworks, the funds are now in place for a night of fire in the sky.
