Highlands councillor charged with murder

An elected councillor from the rural municipality of Highlands, north of Victoria, has been charged with murder. West Shore RCMP charged Ken Brotherston, 52, in connection with the death of a 33-year-old man whose lifeless body was driven by someone to the police headquarters building in Colwood Friday evening.RCMP Const. Tasha Adams would not say whether Brotherston drove the black pickup truck that allegedly transported the body to police, but did say he was arrested "without incident and subsequently charged with murder."Brotherston was charged with first-degree murder, Adams said.

Brotherston has served on Highlands council since 2002, and has also run his own logging company.
