All Talk, No Office Space

Starlee Speers Astral Media Radio (Vernon)

Vernon city staff have been directed to 'think outside the box" when it comes to solving the long term office space needs for RCMP and other civic staff. Vernon Mayor Wayne Lippert says while RCMP would prefer to remain in the same building he's hoping the broader directions will result in more options. "They have to be able to think outside the box, taking into in mind we do have community municipal staff in there. As well there's a lot of interaction between Bylaw and Community policing." Council also directed staff at the special meeting this morning to look for more city works yard space, which could also include satellite yards around the community.

Councillor Barry Beardsell says he's frustrated with the planning for downtown Vernon." It's a lack of direction. I don't see any real desire to really plan ahead. Now everything is being blamed on the OCP." Beardsell says the city should start consulting the community about what the future of the Art Gallery and Museum should be. Other councillors believe that process should start after November's municipal election.

Lippert is telling staff to think outside the box! That is funny coming from a mayor that can not even think. What ideas did he or the rest of council come up with the other day-some suggestions came from Beardsell but all the others did was try to defend themselves and give no input to the process
