Another day...another slot machine debate for Vernon city council. The elected reps had a long discussion Monday on the city's limit on slot machines of 300, set last month. Councillor Jack Gilroy made a motion to increase it to 400 to suit Lake City's Casinos new location. "I've had a lot of phone calls from people asking what the hell we're doing here. There's a lot of people out there who actually like gambling and I don't think it's up to this council to tell people what they're supposed to do." However, after a 4-3 vote, council decided to keep the limit at 300, and will hold a public hearing on the issue August 25-th. The city will also follow up on an offer from the BC Lottery Corporation for $50,000 for what president Michael Graydon calls a "responsible gambling initiative" in Vernon.
