Mayor says deal reach over airport lease

By Peter McIntyre 107.5 KISSFM

Vernon's mayor says a verbal agreement has been reached to settle a lease dispute at the Vernon airport. Okanagan Indian Band member John Jack, who owns part of the airport land, had threatened to prevent access to the city-owned facility if a long term lease wasn't reached before the end of August. Mayor Wayne Lippert says a meeting with the Jack family Wednesday, was very productive. "We've come to an agreement. We've got everything settled out. We cleared up some lines of communication and I'm very hopeful things will sorted out next week." Lippert says the proposed 49 year lease just needs to be finalized on paper which he expects by next week. The city had been paying Jack four-thousand dollars a month since the old lease expired in 2006. Despite calls from KISS FM News, the Jack family has, so far, not commentied on he tentative deal.
