It only took nine days, but the development permit for the new North Shore library has been rubber-stamped by council.Library Square, in the heart of the North Shore on Tranquille Road, will combine the library with a 140- to 145-unit residential development. The library is expected to cost $6 million; the residential development is valued at more than $30 million.Under the North Shore Neighbourhood Plan’s development-incentive tool, the project qualifies for a tax exemption of 90 per cent.
DON QUIXOTE VS. CITY HALL When an American gets mad, he says "where's my Gun". When a Canadian gets pissed off he says "Where is my pen, I'm going to send a letter to the EDITOR". When the EDITOR won't publish his letter he sets up his own BLOG page. When I received enough support to get a Council Seat the dogma of the establishment became : "Better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside pissing in." (Only time will tell !)

A state of the art library for $6 million in Library Square, you say? In the HEART of the city? Combined with 145 residential units providing at minimum 145 pairs of eyes on the street to thwart crime and lend a community atmosphere to the downtown? With the Regional District retaining ownership of the public space? All done through an 'Expressions of Interest' process?
Now that's what I call Smart Growth, but only in Kamloops, you say? Pity.
