Parolees Test New GPS

Starlee Speers, Astral Media Radio - Vernon

Proponents of a new Federal Conservative pilot program for parolees believe it could have prevented the murder of an elderly Vernon man. Okanagan Shuswap MP Colin Mayes says offenders in Ontario will be outfitted with ankle bracelets rigged with GPS technology, which will help the corrections services and the RCMP keep track of offenders on parole. Convicted murderer Eric Fish was unlawfully at large in Vernon for nearly six weeks before he was arrested in connection with the death of Bill Abramenko. The government will monitor the program for a year.
