RCMP accelerated application process considered a success

Manitoba August 22, 2008

The RCMP "Block Processing" recruiting pilot project was a first in the RCMP's history and was held right here in Manitoba. Eight of our own Manitobans were enrolled today at RCMP "D" Division H.Q. Five of these eight future Mounties are the direct result of "Block Processing". The "Block Processing" pilot project shortened the application process to reduce the time needed to process an applicant. It included the written exam, polygraph, interview, background investigation, medical clearance, Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) and various departmental security checks. The "Block Processing" pilot project aimed at combining the applicant's requirements in approximately three months. Historically, the average application process has taken 8 - 10 months. The RCMP "Block Processing" pilot project, conducted between May and July this year, resulted in the recruiting process averaging to 77 days. This pilot project was a success!

To celebrate that success, C/Supt. Peter Hourihan welcomed these future Mounties at the enrollment at the RCMP "D" Division today. Once at the RCMP Training Academy at Depot Division in Regina, Sk., they will receive a Cadet Training allowance of $500.00/ week and up to a total of $12,000.00 for the 24 week training program. These eight Manitobans will receive postings throughout Canada. They will enjoy many benefits and within three years an annual salary of $74,539.00.
