Council defers decision on what to do with the $10,000 windfall from the SILGA convention ?

At the 5 man Cow Council on Monday morning (Gilroy, Nicol absent) the decision on the disposition of this windfall was deferred pending an administration report. Coun. Beardsell argued for a return of the money to the general revenue and any uses to be discussed in the normal course of the next budget cycle. Coun. Cunningham suggested putting the money towards making the toilet facilities at City Hall wheel chair accessable as well as assisting with funding shower facilities at City Hall.

The decision to defer was based on the administrator's assurance that a cost analysis of wheelchair accessibility of City Hall which is a public building was in progress and would provide the basis for future decision.

Don Quixote Note:
I believe that the money should be left as part of this years surplus and these projects as suggested by Coun. Cunningham should be placed in the budget hopper by the July 31 deadline initially requested by the CFO. (Late items of a relatively low valued nature as these should still be accepted). Moreover, wheelchair accessibility should be instigated as soon as possible but tied to this years surplus not a non recurring windfall. The idea of shower facilities at City Hall for staff is an intriguing idea as it would open up the option of emergency use by the Woman's Centre and the new downtown shelter if the need arose. The details of this type of expenditure would have to be more fully disclosed to garner my approval.
