Eau de sewer returns

107.5 KISSFM Pete McIntyre

Some city councillors are raising a stink about the smell coming from the new sewage treatment plant. Councillor Pat Cochrane says it's worse than last year, when the 29 million dollar state-of-the-art facility opened. "It leads me to believe there's some operational issues there, so I'm hoping that staff will come back with some answers. It's definitely a noticeable odour. It's certainly nothing to what the old plant put out but it's still not an acceptable odour for the neighborhood." Councillor Barry Beardsell says the stench is as bad as ever. It is very bad. A number of people (have said) when they drive by, they quickly roll the window up."

Council has asked for a staff report into the smell. Meantime, there's also been residential complaints about the smell created by the bio-solids facility on Commonage Road. Beardsell says a study is being done on that by a private firm, to see anything can be done.
