Penticton to host regional directors at annual meeting

Mayor Jake Kimberley looks over the resolutions that will come up during the UBCM annual conference taking place in the city from Sept. 22-26. Some 1,500 mayors, councillors and regional directors from every community in the province are coming to town for the annual Union of B.C. Municipalities convention. Delegates will meet at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre from Sept. 22-26. “Every corner of the province is included,” said Mayor Jake Kimberley, and the public is welcome to attend as well. Generally there are about 1,500-1,600 delegates, said the mayor, plus their staff. That adds up to about 3,000 people. The thrust of the convention and its resolutions are to influence the provincial government to look seriously at legislation that assists municipalities with their responsibilities to their residents, he explained.

Don Quixote Note: Vernon still has not announced how many or who will be attending the UBCM in Penticton. Looks like we have missed the first deadline and cost us $195 per person plus added costs for optional sessions?

A UBCM Member pays $385 if registration is applied before Aug 8.
A UBCM Member pays $500 if registration is applied between Aug 9 - Aug 29
A UBCM Member pays $580 if registration is applied After Sept 2

Vernon has 4 important resolutions on Agenda at UBCM. (See #1 and See #2, #3 and #4)

Beardsell to go to UBCM in September?

As the architect of most of the motions it would make sense that the person who knows most of the arguments would go to Penticton and ensure that the Provincial Ministers understood the Resolutions that have the City of Vernon's backing. (Plus there is a Destination Casino in Penticton that Coun Beardsell could study in his quest to make BCLC realize that Vernon's casino should be a destination Casino also.)

Hopefully representatives from the Vernon Chamber of Commerce and the DVA will also be part of the crowd in Penticton lobbying in the backrooms for the small business tax excemption resolution.
