Phone lines fall silent at call centre

Kelowna Courier:

They‘ve officially hung up the phones at the Excell Services call centre in Penticton. Excell ended its seven-year stint in the city at 5 p.m. Friday, in accordance with the company‘s closure announcement in May. The Railway Street operation opened in 2001 and employed 650 people at its peak. However, staffing levels decreased in recent years, and about 190 workers were on the payroll when the closure was announced. Excell is relocating the services handled in Penticton to its other call centres in the United States and the Philippines.

Centre director Naomi Ludington said Friday more than 120 agents remained on staff until the end.
Excell becomes the third Okanagan call centre to close this year, following the closure of two centres in Kelowna – Sitel and Marusa Marketing.
