Police in the Vernon/North Okanagan Det are concerned about the recent spike in theft of vehicles over the past several weeks. From Aug 25th to the 31st there were 18 vehicles stolen in the detachment area from Lumby through to Armstrong. At one point during that time period there was 11 stolen vehicles reported in a 37 hour period. The majority of the vehicles reported stolen were from Vernon, mainly in the Mission Hill and Bella Vista areas. This spike in activity has the police asking for the public’s help to identify the thieves. If you have any information as to who is doing these thefts you are asked to call Crime Stoppers or the local RCMP Detachment with information. The vehicles that are being targeted most recently are late 80’s early 90’s Camry’s, late 90’s Ford trucks and Nissan Pathfinders and Toyota 4-Runner SUV’s, all owners are reminded to use locking anti theft devices to secure your vehicles.
