RCMP Stats for Communities

Don Quixote Observations:
  • Only one of our benchmark communities, Port Moody has an independent Police Department. It has a higher cost per member and cost per capita but not by much.
  • Coldstream added for interest only. (Population<15,000)>

Interesting figures. Im lead to believe that crime is going down in Vernon and Coldstream, yet the RCMP want more police officers. I've called twice in the past year seeking help and each time I was told the police officers were extremely busy and it would be a several hours before they could come to investigate. Maybe people are just not calling anymore and that's why reported crime is going down.

Maybe the new councils should look into how the police officers are being used because if there's a decrease in crime, why are they so busy, what are they doing that we needed to give them five more police officers?

Why isn't Richard "Stop the presses" ROLKE checking into that?

A better question yet, these people preaching to be the guardians of the tax payer's money and representing us all, why aren't they actually doing something useful and questioning the councils for both Vernon and Coldstream about these crime figures and the apparent need to add more officers.

Hell, the council in Coldstream even shut down thier community police office because crime wasn't there and the community wasn't being serve with it's current programs.

Five more police officers between Vernon and Coldstream sure seems like a great waste of tax payers dollars, especially when crime is reportedly going down.

With the ever increasing pressure on the tax payer, it would seem like a logical question to ask. But I bet neither the people of the Vernon or Coldstream Rate Payers wants to tackle that question. They seem to only stand on soap boxes and haven't asked the hard questions to truly represent the interests of us, the tax payers.

Sadly, as much as I support our police officers because they really have a tough job, the first blogger may have a point. The second blogger needs to get a life(must be a member of a Rate Payers Association).Somewhere there's a village without and idiot.

Crime stats are down simply because people don't report crimes any more. Why? Because the police tell them that they can't do anything about it anyway and won't attend the scene.

So should we be seeing this as good news, or starting to worry about why the people we pay to "maintien le droit", don't?

Food for thought.

Maybe the whole Robin Hood vigilanteism thing isn't such a bad idea.

Robin Hood is not about 'vigilanteism"
It is about ensuring openness transparency and accountability as required by the Supreme Court of Canada of municipal governments
