Slot Machine Bylaw Moves Ahead

Starlee Speers Astral Media Radio (Vernon)

The bylaw which would limit slot machines to 300 in Vernon received a third reading on Monday. The bylaw passed 4-3 with the Mayor, and councillors Patrick Nicol and Jack Gilroy opposed. Councillor Pat Cochrane says he felt comfortable supporting the bylaw because the casino could still install the agreed upon 4 hundred slots and be legal non-conforming. It's believed the BCLC would not want to be legal non-conforming and would likely only put in 300 slots if the new bylaw was approved. The bylaw must still be adopted by council.

Don Quixote Note: There are 2 more steps before this bylaw is adopted.

It appears that this must still be approved by the Minister of highways and then receive final adoption. P.304 Agenda Package - 9.73MB
