They came -- they saw -- they spoke, and they spoke, and they spoke. Nearly nine and a half hours after beginning a public hearing Monday on the controversial downtown re-development proposal, Kelowna City Council finally had enough input and information to close the hearing. Council will debate the issue and vote on whether to give the proposed CD Development Zone second and third readings as early as next Monday. The proposed new zone, encompassing a four block radius of downtown, calls for up to 13 towers sprinkled throughout the area, ranging in size from 12 to 27 storeys. Close to 300 people jammed into the Mary Irwin Theatre to hear the lengthy presentation on the reasoning behind the CD Zone from city staff and lead architect, Graham McGarva. A little more than half bothered to stick around when the floor was open to public input. Dozens of speakers took advantage of the opportunity to have their say, with less than 40% voicing a disapproving tone.
