Harvey implicates Les in land deal

CTV/Kiss FM News
Former Vernon mayor Sean Harvey is back in the news again, but this time is about another politician who may be in trouble. CTV News is reporting police officers interviewed Harvey in May while he was serving a jail sentence in Kamloops, about former BC Solicitor General John Les. Les is under investigation for some land dealings, mostly in Chilliwack, but also one in Vernon in 2004. Harvey told the officers that Les was a "silent partner" in a group that wanted farm land in Vernon's Commonage area, removed from the Agricultural Land Reserve, to allow for development. Some of the land was later purchased by numbered firms connected to Chilliwack Cattle Sales, who were also involved in the meeting with Harvey in 2004. Les admits to the meeting-- but says Harvey's allegations are completely false, adding the group wasn't asking for any favours. Harvey stepped down as mayor in 2005 after a spending scandal, and later plead guilty to breach of trust.
