Current Vernon Councillor Juliette Cunningham will challenge Wayne Lippert for the Mayors seat this November. Cunningham says she's thought long and hard about this decision."I never thought I'd see myself running for the Mayor of Vernon but I've had overwhelming support to do so."She says her passion for the community and ability to make the tough decisions make her a good candidate for the position.

The city of Vernon will have a race for mayor November 15th. Juliette Cunningham is challenging incumbent Wayne Lippert for the three year position. The 57 year old Cunningham, who owns a business in the downtown, has been a councillor the last three years."I wouldn't be running if I wasn't hoping to be successful. It's not just to challenge Wayne. "From what I've heard, people believe I have the leadership ability for the job." I don't want to get into any discussion around if what Wayne did was good or bad. I want to speak about what I can bring to the job." Cunningham is also a former long time school board trustee and chair, and ran for the NDP in the 2005 BC election, finishing second to Liberal Tom Christensen."I'm really passionate about my community. I've lived here since 1966 but I believe we really have to concentrate on preserving the quality of life that has brought people here. I think we have to be more innovative and creative on job creation."
