Lippert challenged for mayor

The city of Vernon will have a battle for mayor November 15th. Juliette Cunningham is challenging incumbent Wayne Lippert for the three year position. Cunningham, who owns a business in the downtown, has been a councillor the last three years. She is also a former long time school board trustee and ran for the NDP in the 2005 BC election, finishing second to Liberal Tom Christensen. The deadline for nominations is 4pm today and so far there's nine people running for the six Vernon councillor positions, the latest being Mary Jo O'Keefe, incumbent Patrick Nicol, Erik Kowalski and Ray Carling.

Elsewhere, Coldstream still has just Jim Garlick for mayor and 13 for councillor including former Vernon councillor Pat Cochrane along with Allen Dubeski, Clair Methot, David Rossi and Ruth Moore.

NORD has a race in Area B with Cliff Kanester being challenged by Mike Gavinchuk, while Stan Field in Area C is challenged by Mike Macnabb, but Rick Fairbairn in Area D, Eugene Foisy in E and Herman Halvorsen in Area F are so far unchallenged.

Armstrong has Chris Pieper and Ernest Haller for mayor and six for council including incumbents John Trainor, Shirley Fowler and newcomer Joanne Feenstra.

Spallumcheen has three for mayor and seven for the six council positions. Lumby has Eric Foster seeking a second term as mayor and six for the four councillor jobs. Enderby has two for mayor and six for the six council spots.
