J.P. Squire 2008-10-04 Kelowna Courier

For the first time, the remuneration paid to senior bureaucrats employed by the Okanagan‘s boards of education has been released by the province. The compensation reports for school district superintendents were published on the B.C. Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development website at www.aved.gov.bc.ca/psec/disclosure.htm. The 2007-08 public sector executive compensation reports also include the next four highest ranking executives, after the superintendents, who earn a base salary of $125,000 or more. The Central Okanagan report lists only superintendent Mike Roberts, whose compensation totalled $176,071 for the 2007-08 year, ending June 30: $140,391 in salary, $18,680 in pension contributions and $17,000 in other compensation – a vehicle lease of $7,650, employer-paid CPP and EI benefits premiums, and employer-paid health and welfare benefits premiums.

By comparison, superintendent Bob Peacock with the Vernon school district received $158,491: $129,483 in salary, $17,035 in pension contributions and $11,973 in other compensation, which includes a vehicle allowance/lease of $6,600 plus similar employee-paid benefits as Roberts.

As superintendent in Okanagan-Similkameen, Juleen McElgunn, formerly employed by the Central Okanagan school district, received $150,049: $120,024 in salary, $15,878 in pension contributions and $14,147 in other compensation.

No other executives were listed by the three boards.
