A public suggestion has been made to keep Coldstream’s administrator out of a new committee being formed with the fire departments. The District of Coldstream is forming a committee with the seven council members, administration and three members each from the Coldstream and Lavington fire departments. The goal is to discuss and work through current issues in hopes of building a stronger relationship since the dismissal of fire chief Leo Lecavalier in August. Coldstream’s deputy chief Lawrie Skolrood has stated that the committee is a good step in the right direction. But one Coldstream resident says the committee would work better without one key role – the district’s chief administrative officer Wendy Kay. “My suggestion would be that the administrator, Wendy Kay, not be part of the discussions,” said Angie Kitcher, in a letter to council.Kay defends her position. “As the fire department reports to council through the administrator not unlike all departments within the municipality, it would seem appropriate for the administrator to be a part of the committee.” Kitcher’s letter has been filed, but council, who the decision ultimately lies with, has not acted on it or put any recommendations forward.
