previous > NORD loses top bureaucrat

Pete McIntyre 107.5 KISSFM

The North Okanagan Regional District is in the market for a new administrator. Brian Reardon has tendered his resignation effective the end of the year. He has been NORD's top bureaucrat for three years. NORD chairman Jerry Oglow says Reardon is taking a job with the regional district in Campbell River. "This is something that all local governments are struggling with right now. There is a very high demand for senior administrators through-out the province and it does not surprise me that Brian was head-hunted, if I can put it that way." The regional district board has formed a committee to find a new administrator, a position that paid 153-thousand dollars last year. Oglow has appointed two board members to oversee the committee, Lumby's Eric Foster and Area F's Herman Halvorsen, who is also board vice chair. Oglow says once the elections are over, a city of Vernon rep and the new board chair will sit with the group as well.

Interesting resignation by Mr REARDON which is obviously tied to local elections..Unfortunately this blog has now started to limit comments on other topics close to local voter's hearts (for example the local elections)...Another media outlet controlling direction of public feedback...So sad !!!

Thank you for including this blog as a media outlet.

I am running for Vernon Council and in the interest of fairness I decide not to accept comments on the local election.

If I did it might indicate that I agreed with the comments about my rivals.

Comments will resume after Nov 15 election.

Don Quixote, perhaps you should have put that explanation up front and centre on your website... I was starting to wonder if you were afraid of any potentially negative comments that could be directed towards your campaign... that would certainly be a disincentive for me to vote for you, because if you can't handle the comments you receive as a candidate, what will you do with the inevitable flack directed at Councillors?

If you are elected to Council, what are the odds this blog will be continued??

You seriously don't think that people can separate the comments of blog-readers from those of your own? This is your problem created by deciding which comments go on the blog in the first place rather than putting up some general rules regarding content and decorum and sticking to them.

You criticise local Councils for going "dark side", then you do the same thing on your blog-site. Hope you can appreciate the irony here.

I do appreciate the irony.

About 4 years ago I had a shout box where people were online in real time without being screened. That was abused by one person and it caused me to go to the present screening of comments. This is just a small local blog that I maintain and I don't need the hassle of people threating me with lawsuits so I will continue to screen comments.

As for a blackout period during the election for comments I think it is only prudent and fair to do so.

Nearly every Candidate has a website and most don't accept comments. My election site does but I won't print negative comments about any of my opponents on it.

Thanks for being a loyal blogreader.
