Economic downturn impacts Light A Bulb campaign

Morning Star Dec. 5

Economic uncertainty is hurting an annual fundraising tradition. Vernon Jubilee Hospital’s Light a Bulb campaign has only raised $40,000 towards its $250,000 goal since it began two weeks ago. That is 60 per cent lower than it would generally be at this time. “The volatility of global financial markets appears to be affecting the 2008 campaign,” said Greg Hamilton, campaign chairman. However, Hamilton is hopeful donations will increase. “When times are tough, each of us must look at what really matters in our lives. Our hospital is important for each and every one of us,” he said. “We need the best health care close to home for our family and friends.” Light A Bulb is part of a broader effort by the VJH Foundation to raise $7 million for medical equipment for a new patient care tower. “We call on the community to support this important campaign to equip our new expanded hospital with the best medical tools,” said Hamilton.“Better tools can make good care even better for residents of the North Okanagan. We ask that when you consider how you give this holiday season, remember the hospital in those plans.” To donate, drop in to the VJH Foundation office located at the hospital or call 250-558-1362. Donations can also be made at www.vjhfoundation.org.
