One of Vernon's new councillors says there needs to be a focus on small business in the community. Mary Jo O'Keefe says she has concerns about a staff recommendation to deny a rezoning application until a specific use and redevelopment plan was submitted. O'Keefe says small business needs to be given a base by which they can succeed and city plans to redesign part of 31st avenue downtown will help with that. She's supportive of a designated tour bus parking zone in the downtown core as 30-40 people could be dropped off to go shopping at one time. O'Keefe says council needs policies which are conducive to encouraging business.The new councillor is the past president of the downtown Vernon Association.
