Vernon\North Okanagan - Local Auxiliary officer recognized as officer of the year

RCMP:

Every year, Insp. McVarnock is asked by the Silver Star Rotary Club to identify a candidate to accept the local "Officer of the Year" award. The award is geared towards recognizing a local RCMP officer's contribution to the local Detachment area that goes above and beyond the daily "call of duty". Recipients are traditionally selected based on their dedication and commitment to their community through "volunteerism".
This year, the senior management team of the Vernon North/Okanagan Detachment has collectively decided that the candidate would be A/Cst Dale Fennell. This selection was reached based on the fact that Dale has volunteered over 25 years of service to the RCMP's A/Cst Program all of which have been served in the North Okanagan.
Dale's contribution to the A/Cst program has gone well past regular patrol style shifts. Dale has and continues to be very active in the delivery of:
1) DARE classes
2) Outdoor survival and firearms safety courses for School Districts 22/83
3) Home and personal safety courses for seniors
4) Coordinating Search and Rescue operations and snow mobile training in the Enderby Hunter Range area
5) He is currently trained and assigned to assist our Detachment in achieving the requirements of the new National RCMP SAFE Program in support of school safety.

In addition to receiving a plaque, Dale was also issued with a cheque for $500 which is to be donated to a charity of his choice. Dale has decided that his charity is the Children's Hospital Fund.

It was a pleasure for Insp. McVarnock to present Dale with this recognition in front of 150 guests at the Vernon Winter Carnival ceremony that took place at the Schubert Center. Dale was also in the company of his wife, children and grand daughter which made the event even more special. Dale received a standing ovation from those in attendance for his many contributions over the years that were done on a "volunteer basis".
