City selects new economic development officer

The City of Vernon’s new economic development service has already created a job. Kevin Poole will take up new duties as the city’s economic development officer May 4. “I’m extremely excited about the opportunity to come to Vernon,” said Poole, who is currently the economic development officer in Mission. “I’m looking forward to working with the municipality, business groups and community stakeholders to ensure that Vernon is known as an ideal location to do business.” Poole is currently the vice-president of the Economic Development Association of B.C. and chairman of Community Futures North Fraser. “I look forward to Kevin joining our team and promoting the city with his considerable expertise and experience,” said Leon Gous, chief administrative officer. “He is well regarded in the field of economic development.” The city took over the economic development function from the North Okanagan Regional District Jan. 1.

Although this position will start May 4 or 1/3 into the year , the position will be in the budget for a full 12 months. The extra cost to this years taxpayer will be 1/3 the salary advertised as Rate of Pay: $65,946.78 - $77,584.45 Annual Salary Range. The salary will be in the budget at the highest rate plus 22% loading for fringe benefits or $94,625. 1/3 will be $31,226.
