About 70 people turned out at the second annual RCMP stakeholders meeting in Vernon last night. Inspector Steve McVarnock says issues of concern range from drugs and property crime to elder abuse and communication. He says when it came to the top three, there was one surprise. McVarnock says one item he expected to be ranked higher was road safety, which he says will be a focus for police this year. The top three priorities for police in the North Okanagan this year will be drugs and organized crime, communication and partnerships and property crimes. He says the drug related killings at the coast may have influenced the rankings, but he was not surprised that drugs came out on top.McVarnock says road safety didn't make the group's top three, but it one of the detachment's priorities this year.
