Wayne Moore - Apr 20, 2009 CASTANET:
The 'Great White Shark' has been given the task of redesigning the Ponderosa Golf Course. The 18-hole Peachland golf course is closed for the 2009 golf season to accommodate construction of what their website calls a 'new and exciting golf destination.' Greg Norman has designed and will be building the new golf course. The native of Australia has designed golf courses around the world. He took part in the Skins Game at Vernon's Predator Ridge last summer. Richmond development company, Treegroup, is the new owner of the property and is overseeing the entire project. The project is said to include accommodations, food and beverage services, a wellness spa and fitness and recreation facilities. A website dedicated to the project outlines what is expected to be constructed around the golf facility.
"In addition to developing the new golf course, Treegroup will be managing and coordinating the building of more than 2,000 housing units for all demographics. Also included will be a commercial vineyard, a public swimming pool complex, tennis club, shopping services and miles of nature paths." Construction can't begin until approvals are obtained from both the provincial government and Peachland Council. The project is expected to break ground later this spring.
