‘Time to change our leaders’ Street Rally (MEDIA RELEASE)

Greens Hit the Streets For Campaign Launch

Candidate Huguette Allen To Address Gathering

Event
Huguette Allen, BC Green Party Candidate, and the GREEN TEAM will greet motorists by the Fountain at the base of Hospital Hill, Vernon, 7:30 – 9:00 AM, Tuesday, April 14th, to kick-off the GREEN campaign for Vernon-Monashee.

Our Candidate
During her first campaign in 2008, Huguette ALLEN won the 4th highest number of Green votes in 308 Canadian ridings & finished 2nd in Vernon-Monashee. These exceptional results are directly related to her ability to inspire people and get things done. ALLEN as MLA will bring integrity, intelligence and accessibility to government.
Huguette worked in senior management at Nortel and as technology program manager at a college before starting her own successful consulting business.
She has years of experience bringing economic diversity and good jobs to communities. Since moving to BC in 2002, she has been instrumental in having bylaws passed to protect water, petitioning for the rights of farmers, and bringing the Salmon Trails to Lumby.

Green Party of BC
The Green Party of BC is part of the global green movement for economic, social and ecological responsibility. As the 3rd largest political party in the province, GREENS have consistently polled as the preferred choice of one in six decided voters. Jane Sterk was elected leader of the BC Green Party in October 2007. Further information at www.greenparty.bc.ca Media Resources.

as discussed on the cbc early edition today (raif mair et al)-- ndp can actually form gov to bring about longstanding environmental policy and cap in trade (obama style) to to address carbon emmissions.

-Norman Spector on Bill Good cknw am this morn said why don't greens work through an existing party to bring about change (whatever that party)

So much for bringing integrity to politics. Allen didn't run in Vernon-Monashee in 2008 - she ran in Okanagan Shuswap, and she came in 3rd. The only thing she got done was she handed Colin Mayes his pension. Share price for Nortel today is 0.27, down from $1,219.00 in 2000. In 2008 the Green Party received 6.8% of the national vote, well behind the Bloc at 10%. Weyerhauser financed the salmon trails in Lumby, and both are gone now - the salmon & Weyerhauser.

One reason the greens probably don't want to work with an "existing party" is having completely different positions on numerous policies of any of those other parties... i.e. they don't like the NDP's position on the carbon tax...

anonymous, my "pretzel logic" remark was in response to your first comment, incidentally..

There are no restrictions on how many people can comment as "anon".

My comments were meant to broaden the discussion to include the opinions and judgements of respected political pundits from the left and right.

Wouldn't one expect a thinking, feeling person to be capable of complexity?

In times of great change one ought to heed words that originated with Voltaire: "Do not let the perfect be the enemy of the good". We must ask ourselves what is the greater good?

Thankyou to Pancho for offering this service. ps. For a spectrum of opinions visit The Tyee online for both articles by Raif Mair et al and reader comments.
