Vernon fire means grass already dry this spring

Seems the warm weather is already bringing in some parched grass in the Okanagan. Vernon Fire Captain Kim Bolton says on Saturday afternoon, crews had to spend about a half hour dousing a grass fire behind the PV Arena. He tells us the fire was minor in nature, and measured about 100 x 100 feet in size, and it appears a carelessly dropped cigarette was the cause. Bolton says the surface was quite dry: "Just because the snow only went three or four days ago, doesn't mean you can't start a grass fire." Bolton advises everyone to start being aware of dry patches of grass in the region.
