Vernon fire wakes two families

Denise Wong - Kelowna 105.7 SUNFM

An early wakeup call Saturday morning when a fire broke out at two Vernon homes on Willow Drive. Fire Captain Jim Bieber says they got the call around 2am, and crews spent the next four hours dousing the flames to the neighbouring residences. "We arrived and found the back end of two houses - the carport and the sundeck - fully involved and spreading up into both houses. There was quite extensive damage to both residences." Bieber says there were people inside the homes, but everyone got out safely. Investigators will be on the scene on Saturday to determine a cause and an estimate on the damage.

BX House Fire

A fire caused major damage to a home in Vernon's BX area today. It broke out just before 11am in the 800 block of Galiano Road. Fire officials say no one was in the home at the time but there was a crew working on the roof. Getting enough water to fight the blaze at the remote site was a problem for fire crews and more had to be brought in by neighboring fire departments. Damage was substantial, and the RCMP was called to the scene to investigate the cause.
