Halvorson fills chairman’s seat at NORD

Herman Halvorson vows to place his own stamp on the North Okanagan Regional District chairman’s job. Halvorson was acclaimed to the position by directors during Wednesday’s board meeting. “I want to keep some continuity there and represent everyone equally,” he said. “I won’t be a chairman that interferes with a lot of things dealing with municipalities. That is their jurisdiction and right. I will be more neutral.” Director for rural Enderby, Halvorson has been vice-chairman of the board. However, he recently served as acting-chairman while chairman Eric Foster was representing the Liberals in the provincial election. Foster is now MLA for Vernon-Monashee and as a result, he resigned as Lumby mayor and the village’s representative to NORD. Among Halvorson’s priorities as chairman will be trying to resolve issues surrounding the Greater Vernon water utility and completing reviews of various services. Also on Wednesday, Vernon director Patrick Nicol was elected vice-chairman of the regional district.
