Rachael Kimola - May 16, 2009 CASTANET:
Some rural Lumby residents could be coming home to some bad news. A fire broke out at a mobile home five kilometres north of Lumby on Mabel Lake Road Friday night and did serious damage to the unit. Fire chief Tony Clayton says there is a chance the residents of the unit may not know what has happened to their home. “The residents were not at home during the fire, it's possible they went away for the long weekend, so we arn't sure if they have been contacted about the fire,” says Clayton. He says the fire, which broke out around 8:30 p.m. Friday, resulted in serious smoke and water damage. “There was heavy smoke when crews arrived. We were on scene for about four hours. I estimate the damage is between $30,000 and $40,000.” Clayton says the fire did start in the trailer but he can't say if the cause was accidental or suspicious. RCMP are investigating.
