The City of Vernon is still moving ahead with a plan to remove itself from water distribution within the Regional district. Mayor Wayne Lippert says arbitration is still on the table despite a motion at Wednesday's meeting to put it on hold until staff completed a full review of the process. Lippert says the motion was amended to direct staff to find a mediator or consultant to participate in discussions so arbitration wouldn't be needed. Vernon gave notice of withdrawal in March 2008 citing concerns about lack of accountability to customers needs and lack of co-ordination of service. The North Okanagan Regional District also has a new chair. Area F Director, and former Vice-Chair Herman Halvorson was acclaimed at this week's meeting. He takes over from Eric Foster, who resigned after winning the provincial election.
