H1N1 Flu Confirmed at RCMP Depot

Geoff Smith Posted June 12, 2009 NewsTalk 650:

There is now confirmation of the H1N1 flu virus at the RCMP's training academy in Regina. Three cadets at Depot Division are confirmed to have H1N1. 19 others have symptoms, and all 22 of them are in isolation. "We have approximately eight hundred cadets on base at this time, and each of these cadets will be encouraged to stay on base until we are in full control of the situation," said Assistant Commissioner Roger Brown, Depot's commanding officer. He adds that public tours are cancelled, though the Heritage Centre remains open. "We believe that it is responsible for us to contain this as much as we can, and not run the risk of having the inspection spread out to the community," said Brown. He says Monday's graduation ceremony will take place. "We have curtailed a lot of the activities," Brown said Friday. "The families, whether the families are with the cadets in a hotel downtown or whether they're here on base, they will be together. "What we have done, though, is isolate the families and the graduation troop from the rest of the cadet population."
