Peter McIntyre Wednesday, 03 June 2009 107.5 KISSFM:
The ongoing lack of demand for lumber products has forced Vernon-based Tolko Industries to announce more plant curtailments. Production will be slowed at the company's Armstrong and Kelowna stud mills starting Monday (June 8), affecting 355 workers. Regional manager Jim Baskerville says the shutdown is scheduled for one week, but will be reviewed weekly. Tolko's remaining stud mill at Williams Lake, will remain curtailed during the period. Baskerville says the recent jump in the Canadian dollar has only added to the negative financial results of the industry.
