Starlee Speers-Vernon 105.7 SUNFM:
Directors on the North Okanagan Regional District will take a workshop for a refresher on how to behave at the board table. Electoral Area 'C'Director Mike Macnabb wouldn't name names, but says everybody needs to understand protocol. "We had one meeting that was perhaps not the best in the world and it was clear that people were taking liberties they shouldn't have." Macnabb says a workshop is just a good way of reviewing protocol so meetings are civil and respect the purpose of the board.

McNabb and his compatrioi.s only need to read Robert's rules for meetings....and save the taxpayers money by not wasting money an expensive workshop.
But I guess common sense is not part of being on the NORD board.
Better another workshop than continuing to waste more taxpayer dollars because some Regional Board directors cannot comprehend that their responsibilities are not only to their constituents, but to the REGION as a whole.
Robert's Rules explain meeting etiquette, but do not offer ANY insight whatsoever into NORD directors' roles and responsibilities.
It is easy to see where conflict arises: Directors appointed from municipalities are supposed to attend Board meetings not only to represent their municipal council's interests, but to work together with their Regional Board counterparts on issues of regional importance.
At times, those municipal and regional interests diverge.
Witness the on-going water debacle, for example.
So were the staff in attendance at the "not the best" meeting too chicken to remind the politicians about their roles and how to conduct debate appropriately? Should someone suggest a workshop?
