Drug house shut down under bylaw

Castanet Staff - Aug 17, 2009 / 1:00 pm

Firearms and drugs have been seized from a house in Vernon. The house in the 3900 block of 30th Street has been posted under the city's drug bylaw after a search warrant was executed late last week. RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says they are pleased to have this house shut down as there were many reports of school children making frequent visits to the residence. “The officers arrested two people in the residence, a 21-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman. A small amount of drugs were seized, as well as two firearms,” says Molendyk. He says the seized weapons were a 12-gauge shotgun and a loaded, sawed-off .22-calibre rifle. “This residence has been posted under the drug by-law because of the condition it was in. There were stolen items located in the house as well. The officers are happy to have this house shut down as there were reports that numerous school students would make frequent visits to it.” Charges in relation to the drugs and firearms are expected to be laid soon.
