Residents are invited to come out to day and mark the 65th anniversary of D-Day. The Army Navy and Air Force unit at 2500-46th Avenue welcomes the Freedom Route from 1 to 3 p.m.A convoy of more than 30 historic military vehicles from 1939 to 1945 will enter the city from the north end of 27th Street with RCMP escort at 12:45 p.m., and be on display in the ANAF parking lot. “We are honoured to welcome this group of individuals who each day remember the meaning of freedom,” said Bev Fester, unit president. Joining the ANAF colour party will be the Royal Canadian Legion Branch, the Kalamalka Pipe Band and Second World War veterans. “The ANAF Spitfire Unit encourages the community to come by and check out the heritage vehicles, talk with the drivers, salute our fallen veterans and shake the hands of those who are still with us,” said Nina Kaufman, manager.
