Vernon's mayor says water and air quality and transportation were all on the table when some Okanagan politicians met with Community and Rural Development Minister Bill Bennett this week. Wayne Lippert says the mayors told Bennett that municipalities were being hampered in these matters by the structure of regional districts. Bennett, he said, told them to take the matter to a UBCM task force on regional districts."Minister Bennet was advising us to make sure the task force was hearing us and that we were participating . He was suprised we didn't have representation as municipalities on it.'' Lippert says the mayors are looking for changes to enable the cities to pull out of certain regional district functions and contract them out.
