Observant family aids in boat recovery

Photo: ContributedSome observant people and a little bit of technology teamed up to recover a boat stolen from a Kelowna boat dealer. The boat, a 2008 white and black MB wakeboard boat worth about $100,000, was stolen from Tru Northwest RV and Auto Marine on Highway 97 North at about 11 p.m. Tuesday. It was recovered Thursday afternoon in Vernon. According to Gail at Tru Northwest, the thieves took the boat to the Paddlewheel Boat Launch in Vernon and parked it in a strange spot which caught the attention of a family in the area.

She says the son went home for lunch and happened to see a picture of the stolen boat on Castanet and called his parents, who in turn called the company. "The father phoned me from the water and he said I'm looking at your stolen boat," says Gail. "They just kind of watched the boat and made sure no one went near it." While the boat and trailer have been recovered, police are still looking for the thieves.
