The Chief of the Okanagan Indian Band has some questions about police response times to complaints on reserve lands. Fabian Alexis says one issue was remarks from officers to band members.. Fabian Alexis says one issue was remarks from officers to band members..He says members have been told by officers that as they aren't taxpayers they shouldn't expect service. The Chief says band members do pay tax on a wide range of things and contribute substantially to the area economy. He says they've met with Inspector Reg Burgess to talk over those concerns. Alexis says over the summer months the population on the reserve just explodes to three or four times it's normal numbers.RCMP say they have one member dedicated to the reserve 99% of his time with others on call.
