Water quality could improve at O’Keefe Ranch. The North Okanagan Regional District has given approval in principle to a Greater Vernon water line being extended to the historic site in Spallumcheen. NORD staff will now work with the ranch to determine the costs and any other information required for the initiative to proceed.“It’s important that O’Keefe have fire protection and water because it’s a significant heritage site for the North Okanagan,” said director Will Hansma.Hooking up to Greater Vernon’s water utility would provide the ranch with a stable water source. Currently, the ranch receives its drinking water from a well while irrigation water comes from a nearby creek. If it connects to Greater Vernon’s utility, it will get water from Duteau Creek.
