Vernon fire and rescue are inviting the public to a nine-eleven ceremony Friday recognizing the emergency personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.

There'll be a march from the ambulance station on 35th Avenue to the fire station starting at 9:30 in the morning.

That will be followed by the ceremony beginning with a minute of silence, and then speeches from the RCMP, Vernon Professional Firefighters president Brent Bond, BCAS Paramedic Chief Russ Zimmerman, a BC Forestry rep, Mayor Wayne Lippert and an RCMP Chaplin.

Vernon fire chief Jeff Carlisle says it's important that all emergency responders take the time each year and remember 9-11 and those who lost their lives in the line of duty.

A total of 411 emergency workers who responded to the Twin Towers scene in New York on September 11, 2001 died as they attempted to rescue people and fight fires.
