Kamloops receives International recognition from the policing community.
Kamloops - For one British Columbia community, addressing community policing needs has resulted in some very prestigious international recognition. The Kamloops City RCMP Detachment has been selected to receive the International Chiefs of Police/Cisco Community Policing Award in the 50,000 – 100,000 population range. The award recognizes outstanding community policing initiatives undertaken by law enforcement agencies worldwide and identifies best practices in community policing that use the power of collaboration and partnerships to make local, national and global communities safer from crime. For Kamloops this was three years of community efforts in establishing and implementing a crime reduction strategy that has resulted in an over 60 per cent drop in property crime offences.“While this is a great honour for the Kamloops City RCMP Detachment, it truly is an award for the entire community. It is nothing short of amazing what can be accomplished when police, the community, and partners in the justice and health system work together towards a common goal,” says Superintendent Jim Begley, Officer in Charge, Kamloops City Detachment. The award will be presented at the International Chiefs of Police meeting in Denver Colorado on the week of October 4.
